High Mountains and Flowing Streams

Work Description

"High Mountain and Flowing Water" is inspired by the legend of Boya, a pre-Qin dynasty musician who found a kindred spirit in Zhong Ziqi, a woodcutter. While playing his qin in a remote wilderness, Boya's music conveyed images of towering mountains and vast rivers—concepts that Ziqi instantly understood. Amazed, Boya exclaimed, "Excellent! Your heart resonates with mine." After Ziqi's death, Boya, having lost his only true listener, shattered his instrument and vowed never to play again. This piece features a dynamic melody and profound atmosphere, fully showcasing the unique charm of the guqin's sound.
